Hispanic Americans: This Generation’s Baby Boom

California, Texas and Florida have the highest Hispanic populations in the U.S. and the number of Hispanic Americans is only growing. For years we have heard about the emerging and growing Hispanic market in cities like Dallas, but very few companies have taken this significant market segment into consideration. As Hispanic families continue to grow and firmly establish themselves in the Dallas market, it is imperative that any business looking to continue to grow takes a serious look at the potential of the Hispanic market.

According to the Dallas Business Journal , by 2025, a majority of the population of the Southwest United States will be Hispanic. By 2050, more than 30% of the US population will be Hispanic. The growth in this market and its spending potential is fantastic- the Hispanic market spent almost $200 billion in Texas in 2010. It is time to learn how to best communicate with a growing market that is itself diverse and is blending its own cultural tradition with that of mainstream America. The time to embrace the Hispanic market is now.

Ana Blanton has always said, “In Hispanic marketing, it is not enough to be bilingual, you must be bicultural.” You cannot be successful simply translating your current advertising campaign to Spanish. If your company has never focused on the Hispanic market, it will take time to understand the cultural differences of this segment, but it will be worth it. David Calhoun, CEO of Nielsen, has said that he would encourage companies to spend 65% of their time "figuring out their Hispanic opportunity" because it is no doubt the single biggest source of growth for all companies in the U.S. in the short and long term. Living and working in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex gives us a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of a cultural and marketing phenomenon that will change the way we see consumers. At AHB, we have been fortunate to create award-winning bicultural marketing campaigns such as Habitat for Humanity and celebrate Ana Blanton as a Dallas Business Journal’s Minority Business Leader Award winner. Let us help you reach the most significant market segment America has seen since the baby boomer generation!
